The company was first established as PENTRACO LTD. in 1974, with support from the China State Enterprises Export Corporation to introduce Chinese medical equipment and instruments into the North American market. Several successful business relationships were pioneered with major U.S. companies, including American Hospital Supply Corp., American Dental and Weck Surgical.

As the product lines evolved, Electro-Therapeutic Devices (ETD) Inc. was set up in 1981 to meet the growing market in the holistic and home health-care field.
